Continuous Contour Portraits

Steps:

Day 1: Blind Continuous Contour Self-Portraits Exercise. -Training your eyes.

2 minutes per portrait.
Use your phone or a mirror (must be a self-portrait).
Use a paper plate to cover your pencil.

Take your time. Try to enjo
y the process and think of this as a fun challenge. Do not be concerned about how your drawing will "look". This is an important exercise in "seeing". You will be drawing the objects as you see them, not as you think you know them!

Notice these artists stylistic choices using continuous contour, cross contour, and planar divisions of the face!

We will be spending the next week creating portraits inspired by the styles of these two artists.

Week 2: Part 1

This week you will work on arranging your portraits into an interesting and dynamic composition. Then tracing them onto our final paper.

Week 2: Part 2

Once your finished tracing your portraits. Spend some time changing the line weight and line quality.

Workshop/Explore: Watercolor and mixed media techniques. Practice on portraits from the first week.
